DEFINITION · WHAT IS FRONTOPS

What is FrontOps™?

An industrial touch & HMI platform is an all-in-one touch terminal designed for operator interaction on the factory floor. Unlike consumer touch screens, an industrial HMI panel PC must meet three core requirements at once:

01

Industrial Panel Protection

IP65 front panel + flat touch glass (5/7H hardness) + chemical-resistant coating. The front panel can be washed down or wiped with alcohol, making it suitable for production lines, workshops and outdoor consoles.

02

Industrial Touch Technology

P-CAP 10-point capacitive touch or 5-wire resistive touch. Capacitive supports thin gloves and multi-touch gestures; resistive supports thick gloves, a stylus tip and wet operation.

03

Wide Temp + Optional High Brightness

Industrial-grade panels support -20℃ to 60℃ wide-temperature display. Brightness options range from 300-350 nits standard to 500-1000 nits high-bright, readable even under direct sunlight.

APPLICATION SCENARIOS

Typical Deployment Scenarios & Model Selection

Drawn from real project experience: recommendations for 4 high-frequency scenarios — challenge / solution / recommended models at a glance.

Smart manufacturing line HMI
Scenario 01

Smart Manufacturing Line HMI

Challenge: Line workers need glove touch while oil and cutting fluid splash around, plus standardized deployment across many stations. Ordinary consumer tablets are neither dirt-resistant nor glove-capable.

Solution: Choose FrontOps standard industrial panel PCs (EPC-S/W series) with P-CAP 10-point capacitive touch (supports thin gloves) and an alcohol-wipeable IP65 front panel.

Recommended models: EPC-S15 Series 15" · EPC-W15 Series 15.6" · EPC-W21 Series 21.5"

CNC / machine-tool console
Scenario 02

CNC / Machine-Tool Console

Challenge: A machine-tool console needs a large screen for machining parameters + EMI resistance (inverters / servos) + long life (machines run 8-10 years) + standard HMI interfaces.

Solution: Choose FrontOps modular / AI industrial panel PCs (EPC-W18 / W21 / W24 series) with a FlexCore modular mainboard, industrial EMC and long-term supply.

Recommended models: EPC-W18 Series 18.5" · EPC-W21 Series 21.5" · EPC-W24 Series 23.6"

Logistics & warehousing / RFID sorting station
Scenario 03

Logistics & Warehousing / RFID Sorting Station

Challenge: Logistics sorting needs barcode scanning + RFID identification + large-screen picking instructions. Ordinary tablets lack an RFID module, and add-on solutions create messy interfaces.

Solution: Choose a FrontOps RFID pre-operation panel PC (with integrated RFID reader) plus a QR-code scanning module and WMS / AGV integration.

Recommended model: RFID Industrial Panel PC Series

Semiconductor / precision equipment console
Scenario 04

Semiconductor / Precision Equipment Console

Challenge: Semiconductor / test-equipment consoles need a high-bright, large screen (500-1000 nits) + ESD protection + industrial BIOS + multi-protocol interfaces.

Solution: Choose a FrontOps standard or AI panel PC (high-bright upgrade + 5:4 / 16:9 configuration) with a FlexCore mainboard and industrial-grade supply.

Recommended models: EPC-S17 Series 17" · EPC-S19 Series 19" · AI Industrial Panel PC

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about FrontOps™, industrial computer selection and factory-floor deployment.

1. How do I choose between capacitive (P-CAP) and resistive touch?

Capacitive (P-CAP): 5- or 10-point multi-touch, gesture support, usable with thin gloves, and a more abrasion-resistant glass surface. Ideal for modern HMI, information display and Industry 4.0 scenarios. 5-wire resistive touch: single-point, triggered by a stylus tip, thick gloves or any object, with more thorough water resistance. Ideal for extreme environments and rugged applications. Most FrontOps series ship with capacitive touch by default; resistive versions are available on request.

2. What is the difference between an IP65 and an IP67 front panel?

IP65: fully dust-tight + protection against water jets from any direction (no immersion). Suitable for workshops, outdoor use and generally damp environments. IP67: fully dust-tight + temporary immersion (1 m, 30 minutes). Suitable for harsher washdown or heavy outdoor rain. All FrontOps front panels are rated IP65, and the CleanOps G series achieves whole-unit IP69K (the highest washdown rating).

3. Should I choose 5-point or 10-point multi-touch?

5-point is enough for ordinary HMI, menu navigation and single-finger dragging. 10-point suits multi-gesture collaboration, large-screen graphical operation, CAD / engineering drawing review and two operators working at once. FrontOps standard models default to 10-point to leave room for future expansion.

4. How do I choose between 300-nit standard and 1000-nit high-bright versions?

300-350 nits (standard): clear enough for indoor, workshop and server-room lighting. 500 nits (semi-bright): near windows or semi-outdoor. 800-1000 nits (outdoor high-bright): direct sunlight, outdoor kiosks and fuel stations. Higher brightness draws more power, so choose according to your environment.

5. How does an industrial panel PC differ from a consumer tablet (iPad / Surface)?

Key differences: (1) Protection — IP65 front panel vs. none; (2) Touch — glove-capable / multi-stylus vs. fingertip only; (3) I/O — multiple COM/USB/LAN/isolated IO vs. USB-C only; (4) Power — 9-36V wide industrial input vs. USB-PD only; (5) Long-term supply — 3-5 years vs. discontinued in 6-12 months; (6) MTBF — 60K+ h vs. undisclosed. Consumer devices simply do not belong on the factory floor.

6. What are the advantages of FlexCore modular panel PCs?

FrontOps modular panel PCs use the FlexCore™ three-board architecture (i-Core compute board + i-Function feature board + i-Connect connectivity board). The CPU platform, feature modules and I/O interfaces can be upgraded independently — the same enclosure offers a choice of four CPUs: 12th Gen, 10th Gen, J6412 or J1900. Customers reuse the chassis and touch glass and upgrade only the core board, sharply cutting BOM cost and EOL risk.

7. How is an industrial panel PC mounted in a cabinet?

FrontOps standard models support three mounting methods: panel mount / VESA wall mount / desktop stand. Panel mounting uses clips or screws to fix the unit into a cabinet cutout, leaving the front panel flush with the cabinet face and IP65-protected. Refer to each series datasheet for exact dimensions.

8. What scenarios suit the AI / RFID pre-operation panel PCs?

AI panel PCs (with NPU or GPU): quality-inspection vision, defect detection, and face / workwear recognition. RFID panel PCs (with integrated UHF reader): warehouse picking, production-station identity, equipment inspection and asset stocktaking. Both are signature FrontOps configurations — contact sales for a custom solution.
